How I work

Life is hard, it’s filled with ups and downs and much uncertainty. I truly believe that we all find ourselves in difficult moments throughout life and in these moments there is a window of opportunity to explore and be curious with another to get the support we need to make sense of what is happening.
I truly believe in the wealth of healing available to us when sharing with another. Having someone to hear our thoughts and feelings is immensely powerful, it gets them out of our mind/body and in the open to explore and to be interested in. Hearing ourselves verbalise them, and also being heard by a therapist is remarkably healing.
Our Western society promotes ‘getting on with it’ and burying our feelings, this can be fine if the difficulty is relatively small and short term, but generally if we apply this to all our feelings then we can experience a feeling of dis-ease as they hijack our thoughts and behaviours – life can become overwhelming and much confusion can arise.
As a professional I provide a safe and confidential space in which to explore whatever you bring. I do this in a non-judgemental, compassionate, and kind way, so that together we can start to make sense of your feelings and concerns at your own pace. Working together this process may open up opportunities for growth and change, it may help you discover new options and decide what changes you wish to make, and support in coping with those that can’t be changed.
It’s very important that you feel comfortable working with me, and that I am confident I can offer you the most appropriate support that you need. If you come along to an initial session we will explore both your needs and my professional capacity to meet them. You then have the space to reflect and decide if you wish to continue therapy with me by letting me know at a later date or either at the initial session – this is entirely up to you. There is no obligation for us to book in further sessions at this stage.
If I feel clients would be better met by a different therapist or therapeutic approach then I will make every effort to recommend or refer you to an alternative person or therapy source.
Finally, I am happy to answer any questions or concerns you may have around Counselling and Psychotherapy. Beginning a therapeutic journey can be a difficult thing to consider and it’s a good idea to get as much information as you can to help with this.
