Getting started
Your first session

Once you’ve made contact we will arrange a date and time suitable for us both to meet for an initial session. This initial session lasts for one hour, we will explore what brings you to therapy and I’ll ask a few questions and make some very brief notes. More importantly, this time allows me to find out whether I can help you, and of course whether you feel you can work with me. Working with the right therapist is an essential predictor of a positive outcome in therapy. I think it’s usually a good idea to test out a few therapists either on the phone or in person to see if you could be a good fit for each other.
In this first session you can ask as many questions as you like for example, you might want to know more about the process and how it works. If you decide to move forward, we will agree a day and time that works for us both on a weekly basis. In the following regular sessions we will explore more in depth around what brings you to therapy and agree between us what you would like to achieve.
If you’re wondering about the length of therapy, see how long will I need?
